Brother Jacques

Brother Jacques of the Robbinian-Elousie knows a lot about the theory of Magick, other religions and other societies. He is particularly learned in the fields of Demonology and Necromancy.
He knows various sanctioned Church-magic techniques, and can fight unarmed, with a staff, or use a crossbow.
He was once a Black Priest (younger son of a wealthy, respectable but not noble family) in the village of Dejeune-sur-Mer, but joined the Robbinians after his young wife died.
He is in his early 40s, and was once very much a man of the world.
Jacques' main strengths are a broad knowledge of Magick, including Demonology and a bit of Necromancy, and his unshakeable faith (he knows that he is one of the good guys).
He is not an evangelist, but likely to be a bit uneasy about Elves' careless use of (Mental) Magick, especially in critical situations.

Average height and build, dark hair, short beard (some Priests should grow beards and Jacques follows this tradition), brown Monkish habit (usually, and no vow of poverty, nor is armour forbidden... actually no vow of chastity either), staff, books... and some more dubious alchemetical stuff, magical components and other tools. Rides a mule.
Aware that things are not right with the world and there is some serious shit happening; not just casually misguided magicians but Evil Plots are afoot.
These need to be understood and negated.

He is learned and highly intelligent, with really good willpower, but it is disputable if he is wise or merely confident.
Other stats are average.

Has a lot of experience with inner calm and outer violence, Meditation and performance enhancing drugs, and risks Addiction to Black Lotus (which he knows about), wine (which he doesn't realise can be dangerous) and caffeine (in what form?) which he uses to counteract the wine.
Pious when it comes to GOD, but pretty Skeptical otherwise.
Optimistic in that he is supremely confident about some things, but a real Pessimist when it comes to things (inevitably) going wrong.
Not particularly bothered about material things.
Often consistent, but with Mood Swings due to drugs and quite a lot of inherent Paradoxes (working with Magick and dubious allies in a good cause).
Meticulous.
Some of his capacity for emotion was burnt out, so he is more Rational than emotional, but can get Excitable and an effective way of shutting him up is to tie his thumbs together.
Suspicious, but Forgiving. Definitely not vengeful.
Pretty Altruistic unless drunk / craving drugs.
Moral and Virtuous where (he sees it) as important.
Cautious rather than brave, but capable of risking his soul under some circumstances.
More Empathic and Kind than cruel.
More Introvert than extrovert (unless drunk).
Usually neither a leader nor a follower.
Loyal (both to the cause and his companions).
Serious, but not humourless.
Honest (but capable of lying and/or manipulating people if necessary).

Clothing: Various (linen / wool) undergarment(s), usually covered by a brown (wool) monkish habit (which is both practical and social camouflage), with a rope belt outside, and an unornamented leather belt beneath to support pouches and such.
As an alternative, formal civilian garb consists of ruddy (wool) hose and orange (wool) tunic suitable for a lesser scion of minor nobility / moderately wealthy commoner.
Footwear consists of good quality knee-length boots (as in the armour stats), or sandals for summer or light shoes for indoors.
A Silver spiral on a finger ring, but worn on a thong.

Armour: A brigandine vest (equivalent to mail as in the armour stats), with a covering of dark red fabric. Exposed rivet heads are dark Iron inlaid with Silver spirals. Can be worn beneath outer clothing if expecting trouble.

Weapons: Carries an Ironshod (oaken) staff when practical. The rivets holding the caps on bear subdued Silver spiral inlay.
Has a crossbow of the belt-hook and stirrup type, and a quiver of bolts. This is usually carried on the mule.
Has a small dagger for eating, and a fine one for field surgery.
His Backpack contains various supplies and he may be occasionally seen preparing a powder from guarana:
